If you try to open an app that isn’t registered with Apple by an identified developer, you typically see one of the following error messages:
- "MetaTrader platform can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer. Your security preferences allow installing of only apps from the App Store and identified developers."
- "MetaTrader cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified."
- "macOS cannot verify that this app is free from malware."
Does it mean that the MetaTrader platform is malware?
No, it does not! Such a message doesn’t always mean that there is something wrong with the app. It is there to remind you to check the source of your app carefully. If you’ve downloaded MetaTrader from our official website, you can be sure that it is safe for your device.
What can I do then?
There are many ways to solve this error and install the platform:
- Look for a newer version of the platform on the website. Check the Mac App Store and see if the app is available there.
Kindly note that you might have an old version if you download the app from an alternate source.
To override your security settings and open the MetaTrader platform, please follow the steps below:
- In the Finder
on your Mac, locate the MetaTrader platform.
Don’t use Launchpad to do this. Launchpad doesn’t allow you to access the shortcut menu; - Control-click the app icon, then choose Open from the shortcut menu;
- Click Open.
The app is saved as an exception to your security settings, and you can open it in the future by double-clicking it just as you can any registered app.
If the previous method didn’t work, you can go into your Security & Privacy settings and do it manually:
- Open the Apple menu, and click System Preferences;
- Click Security & Privacy;
- Click the General tab;
- Click the lock in the lower right corner of the window;
- Enter your username and password when prompted, and click Unlock;
- Click the App Store and Identified Developers radial button;
- Look for “MetaTrader was blocked from opening because it is not from an identified developer” and click Open Anyway. (In older versions of macOS, you could click Anywhere and then click Allow From Anywhere.);
- Try rerunning the app.
If the above process didn’t work, make sure you downloaded the MetaTrader platform using the Safari browser. Downloading apps through other browsers, like Chrome and Edge, may cause an issue during the installation procedure. Follow the steps below:
- Delete the MetaTrader platform you downloaded via another browser;
- Restart your Mac;
- Download the MetaTrader using Safari;
- Try to run the platform;
- Perform the Security & Privacy fix outlined in the previous step when you get the error message.
In case you’ve tried all the above methods, but the MetaTrader platform still didn’t work, please contact our customer support.
